Gary Klass has opened West Coast Pharmacy on Calle Real.

West Coast Pharmacy is just what the doctor ordered.

The new shop opened in April inside the Calle Real Shopping Center in Goleta, and it promises to offer personalized service, a throwback in time amid the corporate culture of the CVS and Walgreens pharmacies of the world.

It offers a compound mixing service and will deliver.

“There’s a relationship between a pharmacist and a patient,” managing partner Gary Klass said. “There’s a relationship between the medical provider and the pharmacist.”

He opened the Goleta spot with business partners Al and Lisa Sanchez.

Klass previously worked in pharmaceutical sales and has lived in the community for more than 25 years.

He said he wants to bring a locally owned pharmacy to the area to give people options away from the big companies.

“Obviously, you are not going to have the long lines,” Klass said. “We will deliver to people’s homes or offices.”

He said pharmacists will answer questions about medicines.

“We’re trying to establish relationships between the patient and the pharmacist,” Klass said. “We can also correspond with the doctor or the patient via text, via phone, there’s an open communication.”

He said there will be shorter lines, and customers will have access to the staff to get their questions answered.

He eventually plans to also offer pet medicines.

“We have a compounding room,” he said. “We’ll make specialty medications.”

The pharmacy, at 5726 Calle Real, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m.

“There’s a huge need out here for a community-based pharmacy,” Klass said.

Westmont College Student Starts Business

Westmont College student Jacob Guthrie has launched a marketing business, 805MediaWorks.

The marketing agency is focused on Southern California’s real estate market and offers Realtors, as well as other businesses, a wide range of creative services, including professional photography, videos, social media content, graphic design and marketing, according to a news release.

“805MediaWorks combines the latest technological tools with up-to-date knowledge of marketing and social media trends,” the news release states.

The goal, Guthrie said, is to help clients stand out from the crowd by providing them with high-quality branding and marketing materials designed for the digital age.

“There have been so many technological developments in just the past couple of years, especially when it comes to marketing real estate and creating a recognizable brand,” Guthrie said. “As young people who have grown up with social media and online marketing campaigns, I really feel that we bring an understanding of how to use this technology to bring the most value to our clients.”

He worked at public affairs firm Rincon Strategies, where he provided graphic design, video production, photography, and web design services for public affairs and political campaigns. He launched 805MediaWorks last summer.
